Set up pair and group work deliberately (varying pairings so learners don’t always work with the same partner), give clear time limits, and circulate actively rather than staying at the front. With multilingual adult classes, establish an English-only norm gently and consistently from the first session, since it’s much harder to introduce midway through a course.
